BJP’s concern grows over state presidents’ polls

The BJP has instructed all states ruled by the party, including Rajasthan, to complete the state president elections by the end of this month or the first week of February.

The BJP is concerned about internal disputes that have surfaced during the organisation elections even though it is likely the party will retain Madan Rathore as Rajasthan’s state president. Rathore in Rajasthan will also need to undergo the election process.

The elections for state presidents are set to take place in several key states, including Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. Bihar, in particular, is under scrutiny due to ongoing internal conflicts within the party.

Dilip Jaiswal, who became the state president in Bihar last July, is facing uncertainty as the state heads towards assembly elections in six months.

After Delhi, the party’s primary focus will be on Bihar. In contrast, Chhattisgarh has completed its state president election process, with Kiran Singh Dev being re-elected. The situation in Chhattisgarh is stable, but other states, especially Bihar, require attention as the BJP plans its strategy for upcoming elections.

In Madhya Pradesh, the BJP has not yet made a decision about replacing the state president, Vishnudutt Sharma. The elections for district and division posts are still pending. The party plans to replace Sharma with a Brahmin leader, and several Brahmin candidates are now in the running.

However, the process is complicated due to the influence of prominent leaders in the state. Both former Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan and Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia are focused on maintaining their control in Madhya Pradesh, and there are other powerful leaders in the state who are also weighing in on the decision.

In Uttar Pradesh, the BJP will soon elect a new state president to replace Bhupendra Singh. The biggest challenge for the party in Uttar Pradesh is maintaining its hold, particularly in the wake of the recent by-elections. The fight in Milkipur has garnered attention, and with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s active efforts, the BJP is expected to win this seat. A victory in Milkipur would be a significant blow to the Samajwadi Party and affect the All INDIA bloc.

Ahead of the 2027 elections, this win would boost the BJP’s confidence. However, the party faces a dilemma in choosing a new president for Uttar Pradesh, as it must select someone from the western part of the state, since CM Yogi Adityanath is from the east. There is speculation that the BJP might opt for a Dalit or OBC leader to represent the party in the region, given the opposition’s focus on backward politics.

In Uttarakhand, Ajay Bhatt is expected to be replaced as state president, but the election has been delayed due to local body elections. Similarly, the process in other states like Maharashtra, Jharkhand, Haryana, Delhi.
