BJP Retains Power in North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council with 25 Seats Out of 30

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has secured 25 seats out of 30 in the North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council (NCHAC) elections in Assam’s Dima Hasao district. The saffron party’s dominance in the council election is evident, with 28 members being elected and two nominated.

The Assam State Election Commission declared the results, revealing the BJP’s triumph with 25 council seats. This includes six seats won uncontested and an additional three secured by independent candidates. The counting of votes commenced at 8 a.m. on Friday and concluded late at night.

Debolal Garlosa, the incumbent Chief Executive Member of NCHAC, emerged victorious in the Dehangi council constituency, solidifying the BJP’s position. Former militant leader Niranjan Hojai also clinched success in the Hatikhali constituency.

The NCHAC election witnessed polling for 22 seats on January 8, recording a notable voter turnout of 85.78 per cent. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed gratitude to the people of Dima Hasao for their trust in the BJP, lauding the party’s dedicated workers for their efforts.

Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma hailed the victory as a resounding mandate, emphasizing the people’s faith in the developmental agenda of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He highlighted the unique aspect of nearly 35% of the population in the region belonging to the Christian community, stating that their blessings affirm the success of inclusive development.

BJP President JP Nadda echoed the sentiments of gratitude, thanking the people of Dima Hasao for entrusting their confidence in the party. The victory is seen as an endorsement of the developmental initiatives undertaken by the double-engine government under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The BJP president congratulated party workers for their diligent efforts in reaching out to the people, contributing to the significant electoral win.
