The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday launched a sharp attack on the Congress leadership, ridiculing the party’s high command for urgently summoning senior Telangana leaders to New Delhi following the recently concluded municipal elections.
Addressing the media in Hyderabad, BJP Chief Spokesperson N.V. Subhash questioned the intent behind the sudden meeting, suggesting it reflected internal unease within the ruling party rather than routine political consultation.
“With the Congress projecting overwhelming public support, barely crossing the halfway mark in just over half of the civic bodies can hardly be described as a decisive victory,” Subhash said, terming the development a “damage-control exercise” rather than a celebratory review.
Taking a sarcastic swipe at the Congress leadership, he asked whether the meeting was convened to review electoral setbacks or to address internal concerns. While calling it an internal matter of the Congress, he remarked that the timing of the summons raised serious political questions. Subhash claimed that the BJP had significantly expanded its presence across urban local bodies and performed better than expected compared to other opposition parties. According to him, the municipal poll outcome indicated that voters were increasingly seeking governance, accountability and credible leadership instead of “recycled promises.”
He further alleged that reports of internal dissatisfaction within the Congress were already surfacing, adding that public displays of unity often masked factional tensions behind closed doors. Drawing parallels with political developments in other Congress-ruled states, he suggested that such high-command meetings typically signal dissatisfaction or emerging power struggles.
