Bihar’s Electoral Roll Update Hits 98.2% voters: ECI says Final List to Be Published September 30

Bihar’s electoral roll revision nears 100% completion as 98.2% electors submit documents ahead of deadline, boosting voter readiness.

Progress in the Electoral Rolls Special Intensive Revision in the State of Bihar by the Election Commission of India would be nearing an end in a short span of time. Claims, Objections and Documents submission period have less than a week to wind up; still, 98.2% electors have mounted their documents. SIR exercises were launched on June 21, 2025, and the process is to be completed on September 1, 2022.



The press notes by the ECI states that the current status shows an average of 1.64% collection per day in 60 days. Of the total electors, 1.8% are yet to submit their documents and officials foresee their completion before scheduled targets. Booth Level Officers (BLO) and volunteers are actively participating in the final leg.

Verification and Claims in Progress

Simultaneously with collection of documents and verification of 243 Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) and the 2,976 – Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs), these ensure accuracy and transparency in preparation of final electoral rolls.

Of the 7.24 crore electors in the draft list, only 0.16 percent has filed claims and objections so far. This includes 10 cases raised by Booth Level Agents (BLAs) attached to 12 recognized political parties, over 1.21 lakh objections valid among voters within constituencies and none from individuals outside their respective assembly segments.

Participation of Youth on Increase

Largely, the revision exercise has been the reported added new voters. Says ECI “Form 6 along with whisper-file exhortations already have 328,847 young citizens turning 18 on or before July 1 or reaching by October 1.” The increased participation of first-time voters, in turn, looks promising for participatory democracy in Bihar.

According to speculation, Bihar’s SIR runs with the projected timeline of pending claims and objections decision and final verifications of eligibility documents by 25 Sept. For publication ahead, the Final Electoral Rolls are set to be officially published on 30 Sept.

Almost completion of Bihar’s electoral roll revision much before the deadline is a testament not only to the efficient working of the Election Commission but also to the heightened awareness among citizens. Almost every citizen, especially youth, is registering; thus, the updated rolls will strengthen the electoral process and make for a much more inclusive democratic exercise in the state.
