Bihar Government Transfers 62 IPS Officers in Major Reshuffle

On December 28, 2024, the Bihar government carried out a significant reshuffle in its police ranks, transferring a total of 62 IPS officers. This includes three additional directors general (ADGs), as announced in a notification by the state’s Home Department.

Key Transfers in the Bihar Police

  • Patna SSP Rajiv Mishra: Rajiv Mishra, who was recently promoted to the rank of Deputy Inspector General (DIG), has been appointed as the new DIG of the Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS).
  • Avakash Kumar: Avakash Kumar, the current Superintendent of Police (SP) of the CID, will take over as the new Patna SSP, replacing Rajiv Mishra.
  • Kundan Krishnan: Senior IPS officer Kundan Krishnan, formerly ADG (Headquarters), has been given the additional charge of the Special Task Force (STF).
  • Amrit Raj: Amrit Raj, who served as ADG (Operations) STF, has now been appointed as the new ADG (Securities).

Changes in Leadership Roles

  • Rakesh Rathi: IG of Purnea range, Rakesh Rathi, has been moved to the Economic Offences Unit (EOU) to focus on Cyber Crime investigations.
  • Rakesh Kumar: IG of Mithila region, Rakesh Kumar, has been transferred to the Bihar Human Rights Commission.
  • P Kannan: IG (Crime Investigation Unit), P Kannan, has been appointed as IG (Railways).

District-Level Transfers

  • Lalit Mohan Sharma: Kaimur district SP Lalit Mohan Sharma has been transferred to Vaishali as SP.
  • Amit Ranjan: Araria SP Amit Ranjan has been reassigned to Sitamarhi.
  • Shubank Mishra: SP (East Patna), Shubank Mishra, has been moved to Bhagalpur as SP (City).

This reshuffle is part of ongoing administrative reforms and restructuring in Bihar’s police force to improve efficiency and address various security concerns in the state.
