Campaigning for the first phase of the Bihar Assembly Election 2025 has officially ended. The political battleground is now set for polling on November 6, when 121 out of 243 constituencies will vote. The first phase will witness several high-stakes contests featuring big names like Tejashwi Yadav, Tej Pratap Yadav, Maithili Thakur, Anant Singh, and Deputy CMs Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha.

The main fight remains between the NDA (National Democratic Alliance), the INDIA Bloc (Mahagathbandhan), and Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj Party, which is contesting for the first time and could emerge as a key factor in several seats.

Bihar Election 2025: Phase 1 Voting Details

The first phase of polling will take place across 121 constituencies on November 6, covering major regions including Patna, Vaishali, Darbhanga, Siwan, and Munger. The second phase will be held on November 11, and the results will be declared on November 14.

With the campaign ending, all eyes are now on the voters who will decide the fate of major leaders and political alliances. The atmosphere in Bihar is charged, with rallies, roadshows, and door-to-door campaigns having dominated the past few weeks.

Key Contests to Watch in Bihar Phase 1 Elections

Tejashwi Yadav – Raghopur (Vaishali District)

RJD leader and Mahagathbandhan’s CM face Tejashwi Yadav is contesting from his family bastion Raghopur. He defeated BJP’s Satish Kumar Yadav in both 2015 and 2020 and faces him again this year. Raghopur, known as Lalu Prasad Yadav’s stronghold, will be closely watched as Tejashwi aims for a hat-trick victory.

Tej Pratap Yadav – Mahua

Tejashwi’s elder brother Tej Pratap Yadav is contesting from Mahua after leaving his Hasanpur seat. Expelled from RJD, Tej Pratap is fighting under his new party Janshakti Janata Dal (JJD). RJD has fielded Mukesh Kumar Raushan, the sitting MLA, against him. This contest is being seen as a test of Tej Pratap’s personal influence outside the RJD fold.

Maithili Thakur – Alinagar (Darbhanga)

Folk singer-turned-politician Maithili Thakur is contesting her first election from Alinagar on a BJP ticket. She recently grabbed headlines after promising to rename Alinagar to Sitanagar, drawing comparisons with Yogi Adityanath’s Hindutva politics. She faces Binod Mishra of RJD and Biplab Chaudhary of Jan Suraaj. Thakur’s popularity as a singer and her outsider tag from Madhubani have made this contest one to watch.

Samrat Choudhary – Tarapur (Munger)

Deputy CM and BJP leader Samrat Choudhary is contesting from Tarapur, a JDU stronghold, after 15 years. He is up against RJD’s Arun Shah. This contest is crucial for the NDA as Samrat Choudhary is seen as one of the chief architects of the alliance’s campaign in Bihar.

Anant Singh – Mokama (Patna District)

Popularly known as Chhote Sarkar, Anant Singh is contesting from Mokama — a seat he has dominated since 2005. After losing his Assembly membership in 2022 due to a criminal conviction, his wife Neelam Devi retained the seat for RJD. This time, he is contesting on a JD(U) ticket against Veena Devi, wife of his long-time rival Surajbhan Singh. The Mokama seat is expected to witness one of the fiercest battles of this election phase.

Khesari Lal Yadav – Chhapra (Saran District)

Bhojpuri superstar Khesari Lal Yadav is making his political debut from Chhapra on an RJD ticket. The seat, which was once Lalu Prasad’s stronghold, has been with the BJP since 2005. Khesari faces Chhoti Kumari of BJP and Jai Prakash Singh of Jan Suraaj. His star power could change the dynamics in this key Saran seat.

Osama Shahab – Raghunathpur (Siwan District)

In Raghunathpur, late gangster Mohammad Shahabuddin’s son, Osama Shahab, is contesting on an RJD ticket. He is facing JDU’s Vikas Kumar Singh (Jishu Singh) and Jan Suraaj’s Rahul Kirti. While the seat has been an RJD bastion since 2015, Osama’s challenge lies in stepping out of his father’s shadow and proving his political credibility.

Vijay Kumar Sinha – Lakhisarai

Deputy CM Vijay Kumar Sinha of the BJP is contesting from Lakhisarai, a seat he has won since 2010. He faces Suraj Kumar from Jan Suraaj and Amresh Kumar from Congress. Sinha is confident of a fourth consecutive win in this BJP stronghold.

Shivani Shukla – Lalganj (Vaishali)

RJD’s Shivani Shukla, daughter of Bahubali leader Munna Shukla, is contesting from Lalganj. A law graduate from the University of Leeds, she insists her political journey is inspired by her father’s success, not his criminal past. She faces BJP’s Sanjay Kumar Singh, the sitting MLA.

Other Key Seats in Phase 1

Other important constituencies to watch include Patna Sahib, where BJP has replaced veteran leader Nand Kishore Yadav with Ratnesh Kushwaha against Congress’ Shashant Shekhar. Constituencies like Ujiarpur, Arrah, Mahnar, Begusarai, and Bahadurpur will also see tough contests between NDA and the INDIA Bloc.

What Lies Ahead

Bihar will vote in two phases — November 6 and November 11. The final results will be announced on November 14, deciding whether Nitish Kumar’s NDA government will retain power or if Tejashwi Yadav’s Mahagathbandhan will stage a comeback.

With star candidates, political dynasties, and debutants in the fray, the first phase of the Bihar Assembly Election 2025 promises intense battles and unpredictable outcomes.
