Bihar CM Nitish Kumar has handed the crucial Home Ministry to his deputy, BJP leader Samrat Choudhary, as the state announced portfolios for 18 ministers on Friday. This marks the first time Nitish has not kept the Home Department with himself in an NDA government. The move signals a significant rise in Choudhary’s authority, especially as he continues to serve as Deputy Chief Minister following the NDA’s massive victory.
The new cabinet formation comes a day after Nitish Kumar took oath for a record tenth time at Patna’s Gandhi Maidan. Nitish now becomes Bihar’s longest-serving CM, leading a 26-member cabinet that includes 10 new faces from the NDA partners — BJP, LJP(R), HAM, and RLM.

The second Deputy CM, Vijay Kumar Sinha, who recently became the deputy leader of the BJP legislative party, has been given the Revenue and Land Reforms Department. He will also oversee the Mines and Geology portfolio.
The BJP has secured several key ministries in this new cabinet, highlighting the party’s growing influence after the NDA’s sweeping win in the assembly elections.
Key Ministries Go to Senior BJP Leaders
Senior BJP leader Mangal Pandey has received the Health and Law Ministries. This gives him responsibility over crucial departments that impact public services and legal governance.
BJP state chief Dilip Jaiswal has been allocated the Industries Department. His role will be important as Bihar focuses on investment, manufacturing, and job creation.
Nitin Nabin has been given two major urban-focused departments — Road Construction and Urban Development and Housing. His portfolios will shape infrastructure growth and urban planning across Bihar.
Focus on Agriculture, Tourism, and Welfare Sectors
Ramkripal Yadav will serve as Agriculture Minister at a time when the sector is central to Bihar’s economy. Sanjay Tiger will head the Labour Resources Department, which directly supports the state’s workforce.
Arun Shankar Prasad has been made Minister for Tourism, along with Art, Culture and Youth Affairs. His role will include boosting tourism and cultural revival.
Surendra Mehta will oversee Animal and Fisheries Resources, while Narayan Prasad takes charge of Disaster Management — a vital department in a flood-prone state.
The welfare sector also gets attention. Rama Nishad will handle Backward and Extremely Backward Class Welfare, and Lakhedar Paswan will lead the SC/ST Welfare Department.
Shreyasi Singh, a rising BJP leader, will manage Information Technology and Sports — two departments with major youth engagement.
Pramod Chandravanshi has been given Cooperation, Environment, Forest, and Climate Change — portfolios that will play a role in sustainable governance.
