Bihar Legislative Assembly were held from November 6 to November 11, 2025. Counting is scheduled on November 14 to ascertain whether Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s JD(U), BJP led National Democratic Alliance retains power or Tejashwi Yadav’s RJD led INDIA bloc captures it.
Bihar Assembly Election 2025: Voter Turnout
The 2025 election is being conducted in two phases, of which the first was held on November 6th and covered 121 constituencies across 18 districts besides recording an unprecedented 65.08% voter turnout, the highest in the state’s assembly election history so far.
The ongoing second phase has seen a voter turnout of 47.62% till 1 pm. Over 1,300 candidates including 136 women are contesting the election at more than 45,000 polling stations, with about 3.7 crore eligible citizens.
Bihar Assembly Election Voter Turnout in 2015
In the 2015 Bihar Assembly election, the Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance) of RJD, JD(U) and Congress produced a landslide victory by winning 178 out of 243 seats.

During this election, RJD emerged as the single largest party with 80 seats while the voter turnout stood at 56.91%. This election marked a significant shift in Bihar’s political narrative, at least temporarily halting the growing political clout of the NDA in the state.
Bihar Assembly Election Voter Turnout in 2020
In the three-phase election of 2020 to the Bihar Assembly, 57.29% voting was recorded. The NDA got 125 seats and managed to retain Nitish Kumar as Chief Minister while the Mahagathbandhan won 110 seats.

This was a closely fought election with the RJD again emerging as the single largest party, showcasing the competitive political environment in Bihar, voters interested in exercising their franchise, and the shifting loyalties across constituencies in Bihar.
Key Highlights of Bihar Assembly Election 2025
This year, the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision exercise has led to the deletion of around 47 lakh names from the voter lists with this being one of the most high-stakes elections, the 2025 vote has all eyes set on it.
The political fraternity is keenly observing whether the NDA will keep its hold intact or whether the RJD led alliance will ride on the successes of the past to capture the state assembly.
