On Saturday, U.S. President Joe Biden paid tribute to former Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. He said that the strong cooperation between the U.S. and India today is due to Singh’s “strategic vision and political courage.”

Biden praised Singh’s role in key initiatives, such as the U.S.-India Civil Nuclear Agreement and the creation of the Quad. He said Singh’s leadership brought lasting progress that will benefit both nations and the world.

“He was a true statesman. A dedicated public servant. And above all, he was a kind and humble person,” Biden added.

Personal Memories and Condolences

Biden shared his personal experiences with Singh, recalling meetings in 2008, 2009, and 2013. He emphasized the importance of the U.S.-India partnership, stating, “Together, as partners and friends, our nations can unlock a future of dignity and unlimited potential for all of our people.”

Biden also extended his condolences to Singh’s family, including his wife Gursharan Kaur and their three children.

Manmohan Singh passed away on December 26 at the age of 92 after a long battle with age-related illness. His death has led to an outpouring of grief worldwide. The Indian government declared seven days of state mourning to honor his memory. People from all walks of life have called him a visionary and outstanding leader.
