A 36-year-old IT professional in Bengaluru reportedly killed his wife, put her body in a suitcase, and escaped to Pune, where he later tried to commit suicide. The incident was shocking in the Doddakannahalli locality of Bengaluru.

Argument Between Couple Turns Fatal

The accused, Rakesh Rajendra Khedekar, and the victim, 32-year-old Gauri Anil Sambekar, were both from Maharashtra and had been residing in Bengaluru for a year. According to reports, the couple was having dinner on Wednesday evening when a fight turned ugly. Gauri had thrown a knife at Rakesh, wounding him, reports say. In revenge, Rakesh is said to have attacked her with the same knife, murdering her on the spot.

Body Found Stuffed in Suitcase

The gruesome crime was discovered on Thursday when the house owner found Gauri’s body packed inside a suitcase and alerted the police. According to forensic reports, Gauri had multiple stab wounds on her neck and abdomen. The body was also dismembered into eight to ten pieces before being concealed.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (South East) Sarah Fathima confirmed, “The couple was from Maharashtra and had moved to Bengaluru a year back. The owner of the house called the police control room when he found the body in the suitcase. The accused was employed in a private company and was working from home.”

Confession and Suicide Attempt

After committing the crime, Rakesh allegedly called Gauri’s parents and confessed. Alarmed by the call, they immediately informed the Maharashtra police, who then alerted their Bengaluru counterparts. Bengaluru Police Commissioner B Dayanand stated, “Matrimonial discord seems to be the primary reason behind the murder.”

After the killing, Rakesh escaped to Pune and was traced through cyber surveillance and call records. He was found unconscious after taking poison in what appeared to be a suicide attempt. He is being treated in a hospital in Pune. A police team from Bengaluru will accompany him back when his health improves.
