Israeli Airstrikes Continue, Hitting Hezbollah and Hamas Targets
Abdul Nazir Maudany, an accused in the 2008 Bengaluru serial bomb blasts case, urged the Supreme Court on Thursday to relax his bail conditions, allowing him to care for his ailing father in his hometown of Kerala.
The Supreme Court has ordered the Karnataka government to respond to the petition. The matter has been scheduled for further hearing on April 17 by a bench of justices Ajay Rastogi and Bela M Trivedi. Abdul Nazir Maudany’s lawyer, senior advocate Kapil Sibal, urged the Supreme Court to lift the bail condition and allow him to visit his father, a retired headmaster in Kerala, who is ill.
Advocate Sibal also stated that Maudany has been out on bail for eight years and has not done anything during that time.
However, Karnataka government counsel opposed Maudany’s request for a stay of proceedings, claiming that the public prosecutor handling the blast case estimated that the proceedings would take another two months to complete.
Sibal urged the court to allow Maudany to stay in his hometown under surveillance for a month.
