With the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists underway, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has released draft electoral rolls in states including West Bengal, Rajasthan, Goa, Puducherry and Lakshadweep. The draft lists show voters added, and also those whose names were removed because they were absent, shifted, deceased or duplicated.
This is part of a nationwide effort to clean up and update the voter database ahead of upcoming elections. If you don’t find your name in the draft roll, there is a clear process to correct this and ensure you are eligible to vote in future elections.
Why Are Draft Electoral Rolls Published?
The draft electoral roll is an initial version of the voter list prepared after reviewing existing records and new data collected during the SIR process. The purpose is to correct errors, remove ineligible entries, and include newly registered voters.
Once published, the draft roll enters a claims and objections period that gives citizens a chance to fix mistakes before the final voter list is released, currently scheduled for February 14, 2026.
Bengal SIR Electoral List: How to Check Your Name in the Draft List?
You can verify your name in the draft electoral roll in several ways:
- Online on the ECI portal: Visit voters.eci.gov.in and use your Name or EPIC number to search the list.
- State CEO websites: Each state’s chief electoral officer website also hosts the draft list. For example, West Bengal voters can check their details on the West Bengal CEO site.
- Booth Level Officer (BLO): The booth-level officer holds the printed electoral roll for your polling station. You can check your entry directly with the BLO.
- ECINET Mobile App: This government app also lets you view the draft rolls and check your registration status.
Bengal SIR Electoral List: What to Do If Your Name is Missing from Draft List?
If your name is not listed in the draft electoral roll, don’t worry — you can take action during the claims and objections period.
1. Submit a Claim or Objection
- You must file a claim or objection to request that your name be included or reinstated. This is done using the official forms provided by the Election Commission:
- Fill Form 6 (Voter Registration): This is the standard form to apply for voter registration.
- Attach Annexure IV (Declaration Form): This declaration supports your claim and must include documents proving your identity and residence.
2. How and Where to Submit
You have multiple ways to file your claim:
- Online: Submit Form 6 and Annexure IV through voters.eci.gov.in or via the ECINET app.
- Offline: You can hand over the filled forms and supporting documents to your booth-level officer (BLO) directly.
- Make sure you provide accurate details and all necessary documents to support your request.
Bengal SIR Electoral List: Claims & Objections Timeline
The period to submit your claim or objection started on December 16, 2025, the day the draft electoral rolls were published, and will run until January 15, 2026. After this, officials will review submissions, hold verifications, and address disputes during the notice phase.
What Happens After Filing a Claim?
Once you submit your claim:
- The Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) examines your application.
- You may be called for verification or a hearing if needed.
- If the claim is accepted, your name will appear in the final electoral roll.
- If the ERO rejects your claim, you may receive a notice explaining the reasons, and you may be able to appeal as per the procedure.
Why Acting Now Matters?
Participating in this process is crucial to safeguarding your voting rights. If your name is missing from the final electoral list, you won’t be able to vote in elections. Regularly checking the draft list and acting early ensures your name remains on the roll and your right to vote is preserved.
Tips for a Smooth Correction
- Keep a copy of your EPIC card (Voter ID) ready.
- Ensure your address proof and identity documents are valid and legible.
- Visit the BLO office if online access is difficult.
- Double-check dates and do not miss the claims and objections window.
