A shocking incident unfolded at Karigori Bhavan in Kolkata’s Newtown area on Thursday when a West Bengal government employee attacked his colleagues with a knife following an argument over leave. The accused, identified as Asit Sarkar, was arrested by the Techno City police under the Bidhannagar police commissionerate.

Four Injured, Two in Serious Condition

According to police reports, the attack left four employees—Jaydeb Chakraborty, Santunu Saha, Sartha Late, and Sheikh Satabul—injured. Two of them sustained serious wounds and are receiving medical treatment.

Accused Tried to Escape After the Attack

Sarkar, a resident of Ghola in Sodepur, North 24 Parganas, works in the technical education department. Witnesses stated that after the attack, he attempted to flee the scene, running through the streets of Newtown while still holding the knife. However, police managed to apprehend him.

Investigation Underway to Determine Motive

Authorities are currently investigating the exact cause of the attack. While initial reports suggest that the violence erupted over a dispute regarding time off from work, police are examining other possible motives.
