Bangladesh Commission Incident in Agartala: Four Police Officers Penalized, Seven Arrested

In response to the breach of premises at the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Agartala, action has been taken against four police officers, and seven individuals have been arrested, according to police reports on Tuesday.

Three sub-inspectors were suspended, while a deputy superintendent of police has been ‘closed’ and ordered to report to the police headquarters for alleged negligence in duty, stated West Tripura Superintendent of Police Kiran Kumar K.

“A suo motu case was registered at the New Capital Complex (NCC) police station regarding the incident. Seven persons have been arrested so far for their alleged involvement,” he informed.

An investigation into the matter has already commenced, with police indicating that further legal steps will be taken as necessary. Following the incident, security measures at the consulate have been intensified, with personnel from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Tripura State Rifles (TSR) deployed to ensure safety.

The breach occurred on Monday during a protest by activists of the Hindu Sangharsh Samity, who were demonstrating against the arrest of Hindu leader Chinmoy Krishna Das and alleged atrocities against minorities in Bangladesh.

Condemning the incident, Chief Minister Manik Saha stated, “During the protest rally, a group of youth tried to barge into the Assistant High Commission office of Bangladesh in Agartala. I condemned the incident. Peaceful protest can be allowed, but such behavior is not acceptable.”
