These days, preparations are underway to make the wrestlers’ protest at the national and international level. In the past few days, the method of their protest has also changed a bit. Bajrang Punia, in an exclusive interview with The Daily Guardian, revealed his disappointment that there has been neither speed in investigating this sensitive matter nor the expected support from the media.
When the Astana (Kazakhstan) incident was mentioned to Bajrang, it reminded him of how everyone used to get excited to see him whenever India’s name was announced at the World Championships. Will India’s reputation not be affected by giving a global dimension to this issue? In response to this, Bajrang said that if our performances were taken into account, we wouldn’t have to sit here for justice. It has been 24 days, and no one from the authority has spoken to us. This is our country’s misfortune. When we win medals, the whole country worships us, but when it comes to justice, it is divided along the lines of caste or between Haryana and Uttar Pradesh. What could be dirtier than this?
Regarding giving a nationwide dimension to this movement, Bajrang said that we are not asking everyone to come and support us. We appeal to them to support us in the fight for justice for the daughters in their own locality. We are demanding justice for daughters from the Prime Minister and the Home Minister as well because they say, “Save the Daughter, Educate the Daughter.” Bajrang is also hurt by the pace of the oversight committee. He says that we have accused only Brijbhushan Sharan Singh, and one of the committee members equated him with a father for us. There are many others who are equal to their fathers in jail. It would not be appropriate to mention their names here. Their job is to investigate the accusations.
