Anmol Bishnoi, one of India’s most wanted criminals and the younger brother of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, arrived in Delhi on Wednesday after being deported from the US. He is being escorted to Patiala House Court by officials of the National Investigation Agency. The deportation of Anmol from the US on November 18 comes as a big breakthrough for Indian investigative agencies, which have pursued him in various high-profile criminal cases over the years.

Anmol Bishnoi First Picture in NIA Custody

The first picture of Anmol Bishnoi in NIA custody was tweeted by news agency ANI on X, and in the frame, he was seen being held by two officials from behind, in the center.

Criminal Cases Against Anmol Bishnoi

Anmol faces at least 18 criminal cases in India, including conspiracy to murder the former Maharashtra minister and NCP leader Baba Siddique, involvement in the murder of Punjabi rapper Sidhu Moosewala in May 2022, and participation in the firing outside Bollywood actor Salman Khan’s residence among others.

Anmol Bishnoi Family Calls for Safety

Anmol’s cousin, Ramesh Bishnoi, on Wednesday urged the Central Government to ensure his safety when he arrives in India. Speaking to ANI, Ramesh said, “The law will take its course. Our family respects the law and we are law-abiding people, but today our main concern is that if he is being brought to India, then the Indian government should ensure his safety. This will be our demand.”

He added, “We have always respected the law and will continue to do so. He (Anmol Bishnoi) is being punished only for being Lawrence Bishnoi’s younger brother. The investigation will reveal everything.”

How Anmol Bishnoi Fled India

A native of the Fazilka district in Punjab, Anmol Bishnoi fled India in 2021 using a forged passport. He first went to Nepal, then via Dubai and Kenya, made his way to the US. According to investigators, he was last seen in public view in April 2023, when he attended an event in Bakersfield, California. He was arrested earlier this year, which began the process for his deportation.

Zeeshan Siddique, son of Baba Siddique  informed the Hindustan Times that their family had registered as victims of crime in the United States and since then they started receiving updates about Anmol Bishnoi. “On 18th of November we were informed by the [US] federal government that they have removed the offender from their land,” he said. Zeeshan said, “We want the Mumbai Police to arrest and question him to find the motive behind my father’s killing and also in the firing outside actor Salman Khan’s residence. Anmol is an Indian citizen, so he should be brought back to India. He is a threat to society.”
