Delhi Police arrested self-proclaimed godman Baba Chaitanyananda Saraswati on Sunday in Agra. Authorities recovered two fake identity cards from him. He allegedly tried to pass himself off as a high-ranking international diplomat.
One card claimed he was a “Permanent Ambassador to the United Nations.” The other described him as a “Special Envoy of India” and a member of the Joint Commission of BRICS countries, ANI reported. Authorities said both IDs were completely fake. They were meant to project false global influence and diplomatic status.
Alleged Crimes and Investigation
Saraswati, 62, faces allegations of financial irregularities, fraud, and sexual harassment. Police are investigating claims that he harassed 17 women students at a private institute in South Delhi.

Saraswati fled Delhi on August 4 after an FIR was registered against him.
Financial Irregularities
During the probe, authorities found Saraswati used multiple names and bank accounts to withdraw money. He allegedly withdrew over ₹50 lakh after the FIR was filed.
Earlier, Delhi Police froze ₹8 crore linked to him. This amount was parked across multiple bank accounts and fixed deposits.
Police Action and Ongoing Probe
Delhi Police are investigating both his financial crimes and the sexual harassment case. They are also verifying how he created fake diplomatic identities. Authorities said the arrests and financial freezes are part of a broader effort to bring Saraswati to justice.
Police warned the public to be cautious about individuals claiming fake diplomatic positions or using spiritual influence for illegal gains. This case highlights the need for vigilance against fraud and harassment, even by self-styled spiritual leaders.
