In a significant breakthrough, the Special Staff of the north-east district successfully apprehended an illegal firearms supplier, Saif Siddiqui (25), hailing from Seelampur, Delhi.
The operation, conducted near Wooden Market Pulia in Welcome, Delhi, resulted in the recovery of eight firearms, including semi-automatic pistols, a revolver, and country-made pistols, along with 45 live cartridges. He was a key player in the illegal arms trade, facilitating the supply of weapons from Uttar Pradesh to local criminals in the North-East District.
According to the police, North-East District has witnessed a surge in gang activities, with various regional and inter-state gangs vying for dominance. Goups such as Hashim Baba Gang, Cheenu Gang, and Abdul Nasir Gang have left an indelible mark on the region. Social media has become a tool for budding criminals to showcase illegal firearms, fueled by the absence of key gang members who are currently incarcerated.
Deputy Commissioner of Police, Dr. Joy Tirkey, emphasised that the investigation is ongoing and efforts to trace his links to illegal arms suppliers in Delhi and the National Capital Region are underway. The police are also exploring his potential involvement in other criminal cases.
