Atishi Orders Officials To Prevent Waterlogging At Dhaula Kuan

On Tuesday, August 27, 2024, Delhi Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Atishi Singh conducted an inspection of the area around the Dhaula Kuan Flyover and the surrounding roads on the Ring Road to address the issue of waterlogging. During her visit, the Minister instructed the accompanying officials to take immediate corrective measures to prevent commuters from facing similar problems in the future.

The PWD engineers explained to the Minister that the waterlogging on this stretch of Dhaula Kuan is due to its bowl-like shape. The slope of the area causes water from adjacent roads to accumulate there, especially after the heavy rainfall on August 23, which led to delays in draining the water.

Following her inspection, the PWD Minister directed the officials to implement both short-term and long-term solutions to eliminate waterlogging at this site. She instructed them to upgrade the existing drainage system to handle rainfall of up to 100 mm per hour and to increase pumping capacity by deploying an adequate number of mobile pumps. The goal is to ensure that such waterlogging issues do not recur, sparing the public from further inconvenience.

The PWD Minister emphasised that Dhaula Kuan and the surrounding roads are among the most crucial routes in Delhi. Therefore, it is imperative that officials take all necessary steps to prevent waterlogging in this area. This comes after significant waterlogging was reported under the Dhaula Kuan Flyover on the Ring Road following unexpected rainfall on August 23, 2024.
