Assessing Nihal Chand’s performance as MP of Ganganagar

A ground-level survey of the Ganganagar parliamentary seat was exclusively conducted by India News in order to analyse the work of Nihal Chand Chauhan, the MP from Ganganagar, Rajasthan, and understand the voter’s feedback about him.
Nihal Chand Chauhan also known as Nihal Chand Meghwal is an Indian politician belonging to the Bharatiya Janata Party, and MP from Ganganagar. In 1995, at the age of 24, Nihal Chand was elected as the “Panchayat Director” of Nanuwala, Sardarpura Bika and Bagicha. He was also elected as the pradhan (chief) of the Raisinghnagar panchayat committee. In 1996, he became the youngest Member of Parliament (MP) from Rajasthan at the age of 25. He was elected to the 11th Lok Sabha (lower house of the Parliament of India) on a BJP ticket from Ganganagar. In the next general election in 1998, he was defeated by Shankar Pannu of Congress.
Subsequently, Nihal Chand won the 1999 and 2004 general elections from Ganganagar as a BJP candidate. In 2008, he lost the Assembly elections to Daulat Raj of Congress from Raisinghnagar. In 2014, he defeated Bhanwarlal Meghwal of Congress on the same seat. He served as a Minister of state (MOS) in the Cabinet of Prime Minister Narendra Modi from May 2014 to July 2016.
Ganganagar Lok Sabha is situated in the northernmost part of Rajasthan.Ganganagar has its own historical and cultural importance.Ghazal emperor Jagjit Singh was a resident of this place.Ganganagar Lok Sabha seat is also very important from political point of view.Ganganagar is also called ‘Grain Bowl’ because it is famous for its trading market.
This Lok Sabha seat is also very rich in terms of agriculture.Due to being located near the Pakistan border, there is always danger here. However, no major danger has striked in the last few years.Earlier Congress had dominance here but now BJP has control over this seat.
The result of the report card shows that Meghwal has passed as a MP. However, his performance at Ground Zero is slightly less compared to his performance in Parliament. There is a scope for improvement in order to win votes and trust of the public in the upcoming elections.
