In a heartbreaking incident during Durga Puja celebrations, four children were killed in a road accident on Friday in the Sonakhuli area, under the Agomoni police station, on National Highway (NH) 17.
The fatal accident occurred when a speeding vehicle, traveling from Coochbehar to Dhubri, struck the children as they stood alongside the highway. Eyewitnesses reported that the driver lost control of the vehicle, leading to the tragedy.
The victims have been identified as Maryam Khatun (10), Zubair Hussain (7), Mehdi Hassan (5), and Abu Rihan, a 40-day-old infant. The infant, who suffered severe injuries, tragically succumbed while being transported to Dhubri Medical College for treatment.
Officials confirmed that the driver of the vehicle, Bishal Agarwal, a resident of Dhubri, has been apprehended along with the car involved in the accident. Investigations are underway as authorities seek to determine the cause of the crash.
This devastating incident has cast a shadow over the ongoing festivities, leaving the local community in shock and mourning.
