Assam Floods Now Claims 91 Lives

The flood situation in the northeastern state of Assam continues to be critical, as the death toll now stands at 91. Announced Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) on saturday.

On Friday, ASDMA claimed, that death toll has now increased to 90. Assam Floods has claimed seven more lives.

As per Disaster Reporting and Information Management System (DRIMS), the Brahmaputra River continues to stay above danger levels at Neamatighat, Tezpur, and Dhubri.

Besides Brahmaputra, the tributary of Burhi Dihing at Chenimari (Khowang), dinsang river at Nanglamuraghat and Kushiyara River from Karimganj are also above danger levels.

Moreover over 21 districts have been impacted the floods, which include Cachar, Nalbari, Kamrup, Golaghat, Goalpara, Morigaon, Dibrugarh, Dhubri, Nagaon, Hailakandi, Dhemaji, Majuli, Sivasagar, South Salmara, Darrang, Karimganj, Barpeta, Kamrup (M), Biswanath, Chirang, and Jorhat.

Even though the situation has improved marginally, but around 12.33 lakh are still affected by floods. Around 2,406 villages, which come under 75 revenue circles and 32,924.32 hectares of crop area has been submerged.

Around 2.95 lakh individuals have taken shelter at 316 relief camps and distribution centres at flood-impacted districts.

Not just humans, even animals are affected by the deluge, as 180 wild animals which include 10 rhinos have lost their lives due to floods at Kaziranga National Park.

However, the park establishment and forest departments have managed to save around 135 animals including two rhino calves & two elephant calves.
