An IndiGo flight carrying Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma from Dibrugarh to Guwahati was diverted to Agartala on Sunday because of poor weather conditions. The aircraft later resumed its journey after taking off from Maharaja Bir Bikram (MBB) Airport in Agartala, once the situation improved.
Agartala Airport Director KC Meena confirmed the update, telling ANI, “After the weather became permissible, the common flight departed from Agartala’s Maharaja Bir Bikram (MBB) Airport…”
Travel Advisory Issued by IndiGo
Earlier in the day, IndiGo released a travel advisory for passengers flying to Guwahati. The airline mentioned that “Persistent rainfall and thunderstorms are currently affecting Guwahati, impacting flights.”

Statement from CM’s Office
The Chief Minister’s Office also clarified that Sarma’s flight was diverted as a precautionary step due to the adverse weather.
Weather Forecast for Guwahati
Meanwhile, the Guwahati Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) released a week-long weather forecast for the city and nearby areas.
According to the report issued by RMC, Guwahati was expected to experience cloudy skies between 2:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. on August 24. The forecast also warned of a strong possibility of rain and thunderstorms during this period.
The official bulletin for August 24, 2025, specifically mentioned: “Generally cloudy sky. Rain/thunder is very likely to occur.”
