Assam: 100kg Python Rescued and Safely Released in Barnadi Forest

In a joint effort, Assam forest staff, assisted by Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) jawans, successfully rescued a 100-kg python in Udalguri district on Wednesday. The reptile was found in the Bogamati Deuchunga area near Bhergaon and later released in the Barnadi forest area.

A Udalguri district forest staff member reported that the python’s safe rescue was accomplished with the support of SSB jawans. “We released it in the Barnadi forest area,” the forest staff mentioned. The python, a significant specimen weighing around 100kg, was handled with care during the rescue operation.

The Assam Forest Department, highlighting its mission, stated, “The Department of Environment and Forests, Assam, is dedicated to protecting and enhancing the environment, safeguarding the state’s forests and wildlife, preserving our rich cultural heritage, and fostering compassion for all living creatures.”

Known as the gateway to North East India, Assam boasts picturesque landscapes encompassing lush green hills, vast tea gardens, and diverse wildlife. With borders adjoining Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Mizoram, and Meghalaya, Assam shares international boundaries with Bhutan and Bangladesh.

The state’s extensive river network, including the Brahmaputra and Barak rivers, nurtures diverse flora and fauna. Despite the challenges of biodiversity, Assam’s forest department remains committed to conserving the state’s invaluable natural heritage while promoting sustainable forestry practices for the welfare of the local populace.
