Arvind Kejriwal to Vacate CM Residence, Relocates to New Delhi Assembly Constituency

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal is set to vacate his official residence in Delhi’s Civil Lines and relocate to a new home within the New Delhi Assembly constituency over the next two days, according to party sources on Wednesday.

Previously, the party announced, “Arvind Kejriwal is seeking a property that is dispute-free and suitable for living.” They added that his search for a new residence is focused on areas surrounding New Delhi, where he serves as an MLA, in order to stay connected with the community. Numerous MLAs, councillors, party workers, and residents have offered their homes to the AAP leader.

Notably, Kejriwal resigned as Chief Minister on September 17 to Delhi LG VK Saxena, after which Atishi claimed the mandate to form a new government. This occurred shortly after Kejriwal was released on bail in the excise policy case. He has expressed that he would consider returning to the position only with a renewed mandate and a “certificate of honesty” from the people of Delhi in the upcoming assembly elections, expected in February 2025.

Atishi was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Delhi on September 22, succeeding Kejriwal. In a touching gesture, she placed an empty chair beside her own, stating, “This chair belongs to Arvind Kejriwal. Today, as I take charge as CM, I feel the same sorrow in my heart as Bharat ji did. Just as Bharat ji worked with Lord Shri Ram’s sandals beside him, I will serve as CM for the next four months.” She expressed confidence in Kejriwal’s return as Chief Minister in the forthcoming assembly elections.

At 43, Atishi became the third woman to hold the position of Chief Minister of Delhi, following in the footsteps of Sushma Swaraj and Sheila Dikshit.
