Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has made a dramatic announcement, demanding early elections in Delhi following his recent bail in the excise policy case. Addressing party leaders at the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) headquarters, Kejriwal declared his intention to resign from his position as Chief Minister, stating he will not resume his duties until a verdict is delivered by the people.
Kejriwal, who was released from Tihar Jail on bail granted by the Supreme Court, expressed his gratitude for the support he has received and emphasized his commitment to democratic principles. “I will resign from the CM position after two days. I want to give ‘agnipariksha’ and will not sit on the CM chair until the people have their say. I will visit every house and street until I receive a verdict from the people,” he stated.
The Delhi CM also touched upon his experiences during incarceration, comparing his situation to that of freedom fighters and referring to the letters of Bhagat Singh. He noted that despite his challenges, he respects democracy and the Constitution, which guided his decision not to resign immediately after his arrest.
Kejriwal’s announcement follows a period of heightened political tension and scrutiny, with the Delhi BJP labeling the case against him as a “fantasy story” and AAP leaders expressing hope for the release of their colleagues, Satyendar Jain and Amanatullah Khan, who remain in jail.
In the coming days, Kejriwal plans to hold a meeting with AAP MLAs to discuss his resignation and the future leadership of the party.
