‘Artificial Rain’ Used In Gurugram Housing Complex To Tackle Pollution | Watch

New Delhi: As the Air Quality Index (AQI) in Gurugram remains in the very poor category, a housing complex in the city has adopted a unique approach to tackle air pollution. DLF Primus in Sector 82 has started using “artificial rain” created by sprinklers and water pipes, originally designed for firefighting, to control dust and particulate matter. A video from Thursday shows water cascading down from the complex’s 32-storey towers.

Achal Yadav, the president of the complex’s resident welfare association (RWA), told news agency ANI that the initiative was taken to safeguard the health of residents, as pollution cannot be managed by the government alone. He said, the “artificial rain” will be conducted every day if necessary, depending on the AQI.

“Pollution is becoming a serious issue and it cannot be controlled by the government alone. Every resident of Gurugram has to contribute. We are using fire lines to conduct artificial rain from our 32-storey towers so that at least dust and other particles, which are harming children and senior citizens, can be controlled to some extent. Depending on the AQI, we are ready to do this every day if necessary,” he said.

Mr. Yadav mentioned that, in addition to the artificial rain, the housing complex has implemented other measures, including launching a carpool service for residents traveling to Cyber City, Delhi, and other areas. He noted that residents from other complexes are also utilizing this service.

Artificial rain, also referred to as cloud seeding, involves releasing substances such as silver iodide and dry ice into the atmosphere to promote precipitation. Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai stated earlier this week that the AAP government is considering the use of artificial rain as a strategy to combat air pollution.
