Army Officer, Fiancee ‘Molested’ By Odisha Police, DGP Orders Probe

In a shocking incident, an army officer named Capt. Guruvansh Singh and his fiancée Ankita were booked and arrested in Odisha under charges of creating fracas at a Bhubaneswar police station and assaulting a female cop on Sunday morning.
Following this, accusations and counter-accusations started between the State Police and the Army which has now snowballed into a huge issue.

According to the incident report with the Army and as per the couple’s version, at approximately 01.30 hours on Sunday the couple were travelling in their vehicle in Bhubaneswar when they were harassed and abused by a dozen of individuals in three vehicles who were engaged in rash driving.

After the incident, the couple managed to get away and reached Bharatpur Police Station to file a complaint as they had noted down the registration number of one of the vehicles.
However, at the station things went out of hand with different versions by the police and the couple.

The couple alleged that at the police station, officials were hesitant to write a FIR and refused to act immediately. They also insisted that they first file a written complaint before any action could be taken.

Sooner, tensions escalated when the couple asked to speak with senior officers which led to heated exchange. According to the army sources, the lady was manhandled and thrashed.
A senior official confirmed that the lady was taken to another cell by a female police officer and was stripped off. Later, a male police personnel entered the cell and put his feet on the bare chest of the woman and unzipped his pants. The army officer was allegedly detained and was also physically manhandled and held in custody for over 9-10 hours, before being released after senior army officials intervened.
