“Area of Lakshadweep may be small, but its heart is huge” says PM Modi at Kavaratti

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated projects worth Rs 1,156 crores in Kavaratti, Lakshadweep, emphasizing the government’s commitment to the region’s sustainable development. During the inauguration, PM Modi announced the completion of the Kochi-Lakshadweep Submarine Optical Fiber Project, significantly boosting internet speed in the archipelago.

Reflecting on past neglect, PM Modi highlighted a shift in government priorities over the last decade, focusing onoo border areas and remote territories. He stressed the significance of development reaching all corners of the country.

The blue economy was a focal point, with PM Modi emphasizing India’s efforts to enhance its share in the global seafood market. Lakshadweep, particularly known for its Tuna fish, has seen exports to Japan increase. The Prime Minister also mentioned exploring opportunities related to seaweed cultivation in the region.

A solar power plant based on Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) was inaugurated, marking Lakshadweep’s first battery-backed solar project. PM Modi expressed confidence that the project would reduce pollution and minimize the impact on the state’s ocean ecosystem.

In an interaction with beneficiaries of government schemes, PM Modi heard success stories, including establishing a self-reliant restaurant by a self-help group, healthcare support through Ayushman Bharat, and transformative impacts on women farmers through PM-KISAN.

Later today, PM Modi is set to address a mass gathering of two lakh women at the Bharatiya Janata Party’s Mahila Conference in Thrissur, Kerala. The conference, themed ‘Sthree Shakthi Modikk Oppam’ (Empower Women with Modi), aims to applaud the passage of the Women’s Reservation Bill in Parliament.

This follows PM Modi’s dedication of multiple development projects worth over Rs 20,000 crore in Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu, including the Demonstration Fast Reactor Fuel Reprocessing Plant and the new terminal building at the Tiruchirappalli International Airport. The rail projects inaugurated are expected to enhance freight and passenger capacity, contributing to economic development and employment generation in Tamil Nadu.
