Chennai Schools Closed on December 3: Schools across southern India are closing or advancing their schedule in light of Cyclone Ditwah and major local festivals. Students and parents want to know about the details of closures in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and parts of southern Andhra Pradesh and Kerala. Meanwhile, festival-related holidays in Tiruvannamalai and Kanyakumari also affect the local institutions there.
The persisting Cyclone Ditwah has made the authorities put student safety first. School closure was declared in Chennai, as well as in neighboring Tiruvallur and Kancheepuram districts, on December 3, 2025. The storm currently hovers over the southwest Bay of Bengal, building up rainfalls that may prolong closure dates as the forecast updates.
The famous Karthigai Deepam festival at the Sri Arunachaleswarar (Annamalaiyar) Temple in Tiruvannamalai is set to take place on December 3, attracting lakhs of devotees from various parts of the state.
As per the announcement, all government offices, schools, colleges and state run institutions in the district will remain closed on December 3, except in cases where examinations have already been scheduled.
On December 3, the Sri Arunachaleswarar Temple in Tiruvannamalai is expected to attract several thousands of devotees on the Karthigai Deepam festival.

Unlike the southern states, Haryana experiences minimal disturbance. Schools are likely to be closed in Kurukshetra district itself for the students attending the recitation of International Gita Mahotsav other than that, schools have regular classes.
