A mother in Chitoor, Andhra Pradesh, allegedly set her two daughters ablaze, who were 5 and 7 years old, and attempted suicide because she was psychologically unstable after her husband left her. The victim has been identified as Lalithamma, a resident of Ramasamudram Mandal in Madanapalli Constituency, Chittoor district.
According to Ramasamudram police, the incident happened on Wednesday on some hills near Mulbagal in Karnataka, a few kilometres from Palamaner in the Chittoor district. Locals reportedly intervened to save the woman after they observed her attempting suicide, according to the police.
“The woman is a native of Ramasamudram Mandal. She was mentally disturbed after her husband left her. She then set her two daughters ablaze and tried to end her life. But when the locals noticed her, she was rescued,” Ramasamudram Police said in a statement.
The mother attempted suicide after setting her two daughters on fire, but was saved when neighbours saw her. Later, police responded quickly and transported the children, who were fighting for their lives, to a nearby hospital.
Meanwhile, the police have registered a case in the matter, and further investigation is underway.
