Andhra Pradesh: Chief Electoral Officer Meets With Governor Nazeer

Andhra Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer Mukesh Kumar Meena, along with officials from the Election Commission of India and Additional Chief Electoral Officers, met Governor Abdul Nazeer at Raj Bhavan on Thursday. During the meeting, the officials submitted a report to the Election Commission of India, listing the elected members from the general election to the Legislative Assembly of Andhra Pradesh 2024.

On Wednesday, Governor Abdul Nazeer dissolved the 15th State Legislative Assembly following the announcement of the election results on June 4. Acting on the cabinet’s advice, the Governor signed an order to dissolve the assembly, thereby initiating the formation of the 16th Legislative Assembly in Andhra Pradesh. The official notification stated, “In exercise of the powers conferred by Clause (2) (b) of Article 174 of the Constitution of India, I, S Abdul Nazeer, Governor of Andhra Pradesh, on the advice of the Council of Ministers, hereby dissolve the Fifteenth Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly with effect from the date of this notification.”

Following the YSR Congress’s defeat in the assembly elections, Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy tendered his resignation to the Governor on Tuesday. Governor Nazeer accepted Reddy’s resignation and requested him to continue as caretaker Chief Minister until the new government assumes office.

The Telugu Desam Party (TDP), led by N Chandrababu Naidu, achieved a landslide victory in the assembly polls, winning 135 out of 175 seats and maintaining its dominance in the state. The TDP’s allies, the Janasena Party led by Pawan Kalyan and the BJP, secured 21 and eight seats respectively. The ruling YSR Congress Party was reduced to just 11 seats.
