Anantnag Encounter: Two Terrorists Killed, Major Setback for LeT and PAFF

In Anantnag, two terrorists were neutralized in a recent encounter, marking a significant setback for groups Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) and the People’s Anti-Fascist Front (PAFF), according to Brigadier Anirudh Chauhan, Commander of the Indian Army’s 2 Sector Rashtriya Rifles. Following the operation, Brigadier Chauhan confirmed that security forces recovered substantial ammunition and explosives from the terrorists.

He explained in a press briefing that the joint operation, known as Operation Halkan Gali, was a collaboration between the Indian Army and Jammu & Kashmir Police in challenging terrain. After receiving confirmed intelligence on the terrorists’ return to the Laroo area, security forces devised a coordinated plan involving the Indian Army’s 19 Rashtriya Rifles, 1 Para Special Forces, 7 Para Special Forces, and J&K Police. Both terrorists were neutralized in the operation, and significant weaponry was seized. The two individuals had previously attacked an Indian Army camp in Kulgam in October 2023 and were reportedly involved in attacks on non-local residents.

Deputy Inspector General Javid Ahmad Matoo of the South Kashmir Range also provided details, stating that the encounter took place in Halkan Gali within Larno Police Station’s jurisdiction. Acting on intelligence about terrorist movement, J&K Police and Army personnel launched a joint operation, leading to the engagement and elimination of the terrorists.

Inspector General Vidhi Kumar Birdi from the Kashmir Zone described the operation as a well-executed response based on intelligence inputs, emphasizing the importance of such actions in maintaining security in the region.
