Consumers will get relief at the grocery store after Amul cuts prices on over 700 dairy and food products from September 22, after the GST Council reduced tax rates. Staples like butter, cheese, paneer, and ice cream will now be more affordable.
The move comes amid rising food inflation. Amul aims to ease costs for consumers while boosting demand for farmers’ produce. Earlier this month, Mother Dairy made a similar move, showing a trend among dairies to pass on GST benefits.
What Gets Cheaper?
The price cuts affect many essentials. Amul lowers costs on butter, cheese cubes, paneer, ice cream, UHT milk, chocolates, condensed milk, malt-based drinks, peanut spreads, and frozen snacks. Items like butter and cheese see large drops.
Amul announces its revised price list of more than 700 products, offering the full benefit of GST reduction to its customers, effective 22nd September 2025, the date the revised GST rates come into effect.

The eight-pack of cheese cubes falls to ₹130 from ₹139. The 100-g butter pack now costs ₹58, down from ₹62. A 500-g butter pack drops to ₹285, from ₹305. Pouch milk stays the same. It already enjoys a GST exemption.

Why Amul Made the Move?
Amul claims the move will boost dairy consumption in India. Amul also says farmers will benefit because demand will grow. Amul’s Managing Director, Jayen Mehta, says: “This revision helps both ends—consumers benefit from affordability, and farmers gain from increased demand.”
As a cooperative owned by 36 lakh farmers, Amul hopes more of the consumer’s money will reach producers.
Consumer Relief Amid Inflation
Many shoppers welcome the cuts. “Prices are rising every week. Just recently, Amul cheese cubes went from ₹135 to ₹139,” said Asmita Sanas, a Mumbai homemaker. “This ₹9 drop helps a little. We also buy several 100g butter packs monthly, so that’s ₹4 off per pack. It adds up.”

Households spending less on cooking staples will feel relief. Small savings on each product will add up over weeks. Amul Parlours, shops, and retailers now display the new prices. Distributors receive updated lists.
Local Dairy for Health & Sustainability
Amul believes these cuts also support healthier and more sustainable eating. By making paneer, butter, and milk more affordable, Amul hopes more people will opt for local dairy instead of processed imports. This shift could reduce carbon footprints linked with importing dairy. It could also boost local farmers’ income further.
Amul aims to set a standard. Other dairies may follow. Earlier this month, Mother Dairy also cut prices after the same GST slash.
