Amit Shah criticises opposition, champions national pride

Union Home Minister Amit Shah sharply criticised the opposition alliance this Sunday, drawing parallels with the adage, “old wine in an old bottle”. Shah alleged the group was complicit in a corruption scam estimated at Rs 12 lakh crore.
Shah aimed direct barbs at the main opposition party, the Congress, asserting that under its governance, India’s economy languished, never surpassing 11th globally. He contrasted this with the achievements under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s administration, which catapulted India to the world’s 5th largest economy.
The remarks came as Shah officiated the foundation laying ceremony of a regional centre for the National Security Guard (NSG) located in Mansa, Gujarat.
This political skirmish heats up in the run-up to the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. A conglomerate of 26 opposition parties has rallied under the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) banner, intending to challenge the current Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
Taking aim at the rebranded opposition, Shah jibed, “They may have altered their moniker, but their past remains tainted. Who would vote for a faction implicated in such massive corruption?”
Reiterating his confidence in the current leadership, Shah predicted a triumphant return to power for the BJP under Modi’s helm.
Shah then shifted to evoke nationalistic sentiments. He lamented that many hadn’t witnessed India’s freedom struggle nor had the opportunity to die for the country. However, he emphasised the importance of living for the nation. Shah urged citizens to instil a sense of profound patriotism in the younger generation, teaching them the value of their cultural and linguistic heritage.
Expounding on the importance of preserving regional languages, Shah expressed concerns about the dwindling prominence of Gujarati. He argued that neglecting one’s native language and culture jeopardises national pride and identity.
He concluded by highlighting India’s significant historical contributions to the world, urging the populace to work collectively to establish India as a global powerhouse across various domains.
