All-New Aadhaar App by Modi Govt Brings Face ID, QR Code, and More

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw formally launched the highly anticipated Aadhaar mobile app on Tuesday, with the goal of increasing security and convenience for citizens nationwide.

The minister launched the app on X (formerly Twitter), emphasizing its face ID authentication and artificial intelligence (AI) features. Created in collaboration with the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), the app takes Aadhaar verification to the people’s fingertips.

No More Photocopies—QR Code and Face ID to the Rescue

Among the major innovations of the app is its instant verification system using QR codes and live face ID verification. These cut out the requirement of physical Aadhaar cards or photocopies being submitted for the regular verifications such as a hotel stay or travel.

“Aadhaar verification becomes as simple as making a UPI payment,” Vaishnaw posted on X, highlighting the user-friendly nature of the app.

Complete Control Over Personal Information

The new Aadhaar app provides the facility to share only the information necessary, providing individuals with more control over their personal information. As stated by the minister, “No need to surrender Aadhaar photocopy at hotel receptions, shop or while travelling. Aadhaar App is secure and shareable with user’s permission. 100 per cent digital and secure.”

This digital method guarantees confidentiality and avoids Aadhaar information misuse, and streamlines the process of authentication.

Nationwide Rollout Following Beta Phase

In its beta phase now, the app will roll out nationwide in the near future. With complete rollout, Aadhaar verification will be a smooth digital process across industries.

The app also replicates the ease of UPI payments. With Aadhaar QR codes being made available at various “points of authentication,” users can easily scan them through the app. The authentication process then occurs instantly through facial recognition, with the information being transmitted securely from the user’s device.

UIDAI and Government Collaborate for a Digital Leap

Moreover, the partnership with UIDAI and the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology reflects the government’s continued efforts towards a digital-first India. By leveraging AI and mobile technology, the Aadhaar app further aims to simplify the process of identity verification, making it easier, quicker, and more secure for all citizens.
