Aligarh: Students Forced To Make ‘Rotis’ At School, Principle Held

The principal of a primary school in Aligarh was suspended after a video surfaced online showing students preparing rotis for mid-day meals on the school premises. The video, which depicted 4-5 girl students aged 6-12 working in the kitchen, led to an investigation initiated by the Basic Shiksha Adhikari (BSA).

Rakesh Kumar Yadav, the BSA of Aligarh, stated on Sunday, “The issue came to light after a video from a primary school in Roravar, under the Lodha development block of Aligarh district, was widely shared. Basic Education Officer (BEO) Ram Shankar Kureel was assigned to investigate, and a three-member committee headed by him found the principal, Munawwar Jahan, guilty of negligence. As a result, she has been suspended.”

In a separate incident, Mohammad Imran, a principal at a composite school in Ramgarh, Aligarh district, was suspended for allegedly “mercilessly beating” a Class 6 student. This incident sparked outrage among locals, leading to a protest at the school. The village head, Bablu Baghel, reported the principal’s behavior to the BEO, and the student corroborated the incident. After the investigation, the BSA suspended Imran when he failed to respond to the notice issued against him.

Additionally, last month, a female teacher at a primary school was suspended by the BSA for “irresponsible behavior.” This action followed the circulation of two videos featuring the teacher, Dimple Bansal, with students aged 5-10. In the first video, Bansal was seen lying down and seemingly taking a nap during class while a few students fanned her. In the second video, she was observed caning some students with a stick.
