Delhi Traffic Alert: Akon Concert, Samay Raina Show, SCBA Walkathon to Cause Major Delays (Source: Road Traffic Management)
People living in Delhi will have a tough time on Sunday as the Delhi Traffic Police issued a number of advisories to warn about diversions and restrictions across central and south Delhi. Four major events-a marathon, a concert, a comedy show, and ongoing road construction-are the reasons behind the congestion that is expected throughout the day.
First-ever SCBA Run/Walkathon – Justice for All, organised by the SCBA, will commence at 7 am from central Delhi. Restrictions would be imposed on Tilak Marg, C-Hexagon, Mathura Road, Purana Quila Road, and stretches leading to them to ensure public safety and ease traffic movement.
The traffic diversions would continue between 7 am and 9 am from W-Point to Tilak Marg Crossing C-Hexagon and Mathura Road towards C-Hexagon.
The advisory said, “Commuters going towards Dhaula Kuan may use Vande Matram Marg and Mother Teresa Crescent Marg to reach their destinations.”
Music enthusiasts are likely to throng the Jawaharlal Nehru (JLN) Stadium, Lodhi Road, as Akon goes live from 5 pm to 10 pm. Special entry and parking arrangements have been announced as over 10,000 people are expected to attend the concert.
The spectators shall enter from Gate Nos. 13 and 14, while the parking facilities shall be provided at Gate Nos. 7–9 and at the Scope Complex MCD parking.
Heavy transport vehicles will not be allowed between 4 pm and 11 pm, between JLN Stadium traffic signal and B.P. Marg to avoid gridlocks. These arrangements are being made to ensure that concertgoers and commuters have a smooth experience, police said.
The stand-up special "Still Alive & Unfiltered" of popular comedian Samay Raina will continue at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium near ITO and heavy traffic is expected in the Indraprastha Estate area.
Traffic restrictions will continue on IP Marg, Vikas Marg, and Ring Road from 1 pm to 11 pm. The Delhi Police have cautioned commuters to plan alternative routes and avoid the ITO stretch to avoid long jams.
Work of drainage to slow down traffic at Panchkuian–Bangla Sahib Road
Adding to Sunday’s congestion, road work and drainage improvement projects at Panchkuian–Bangla Sahib Road in central Delhi are likely to curtail the movement of traffic. The nature of the impact will depend on the progress of work, and traffic is expected to be partly or fully restricted between the Outer CC Panchkuian Road and Panchkuian Road.
The Delhi Traffic Police have asked the citizens to follow real-time updates through their official social media handles and traffic helpline. Commuters are advised to:
