Indian-American comedian Akaash Singh reportedly voiced his support for Ranveer Allahbadia and Samay Raina amidst the outrage swirling around the show India’s Got Latent. The two Indian comedians faced immense public backlash and scrutiny from the law after an episode enraged the public and caused intervention by the Supreme Court of India.
Post of Akaash Singh
Through an online post, Singh expressed concern over the silence of the Indian-American entertainment industry. “Not a single Indian American actor, podcaster, or even stand-up comic have said a word about what is going on with Ranveer and Samay back home,” wrote Singh. Many celebs discuss the social issues only when it will be of use to their public images, he added.

In a recent podcast, Singh took the time to discuss this whole incident with his guest and lay the groundwork for why he has his reservations about performing in India. His remarks have ignited yet another discussion about censorship and the artistic freedom of comedians in India.
Internet is Divided
Singh’s video has released a flurry of mixed reactions online. While some agreed with him, others branded him as meddling with Indian matters. Influencer Seema Anand remarked: “And don’t you just love the people saying ‘it was vulgar and can’t be tolerated’ when none of them have ever raised their voice to protest some real violence and assault?”
Similarly, RJ Malishka commented: “I talk on radio every day… True, we never know when the mob decides. By then, we take our chances.” For some online users, however, Singh had no right to defend in an American accent one of the two: “Just because this dude is defending in an American accent does not mean they were right.” The controversy revolved around Ranveer Allahbadia.
