In a bid to strengthen its grassroots presence, the Ajit Pawar-led NCP faction, a key ruling ally in Maharashtra, has unveiled plans for ‘janata durbars’ and district-wise tours. The decision was shared post a meeting headed by Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, gathering NCP ministers, party luminaries, and followers in south Mumbai.
Lok Sabha MP and state president of the Ajit Pawar group, Sunil Tatkare, briefed that the assembly centred on reinforcing the NCP’s groundwork and its key policies. “The core committee will reconvene next week to assess organisational issues,” added Tatkare.
Key leaders will embark on Lok Sabha constituency tours, and NCP ministers are slated to initiate ‘janata durbars’ from the upcoming week.
The NCP underwent a split on July 2 when nine of its leaders, including Ajit Pawar, aligned with the Eknath Shinde-led BJP-Shiv Sena government. Both factions, one supporting Ajit Pawar and the other backing NCP’s founder Sharad Pawar, contend having the majority backing of NCP MLAs. In the 288-seat Maharashtra assembly, the undivided NCP holds 53 seats.
