AICTE launches scheme to strengthen Indian Knowledge System

AICTE Chairman, Professor TG Sitharam, Launches Distinguished Professional Scheme (DPS) to Enhance Research and Innovation, Bolstering Indian Knowledge System. According to an official press statement, the initiative seeks to gather industry, institute, and research lab experts to involve exceptionally qualified professionals in their respective fields.

The aim is to encourage and drive both students and faculty members affiliated with AICTE-approved institutes. The scheme is tailored to enrich students’ job prospects, facilitate industry engagements, stimulate research and creativity, bolster startup ventures and entrepreneurial endeavors, and fortify the Indian Knowledge System (IKS). Moreover, as per an official press release, “Professor TG Sitharam underscored the significance of seasoned professionals imparting their expertise to faculty and students.”

“He emphasized how this interaction not only enhances students’ grasp of industry requirements but also boosts faculty members’ teaching skills. Ultimately, this equips students to tackle challenges in the employment sphere,” it further stated. Individuals seeking registration must have demonstrated exceptional technical or professional contributions to society in their respective domains. Recipients should be recognized professionals actively engaged in research, technology advancement, innovation, and administration, it added.

The scheme’s duration is three years or until reaching the age of 75, whichever comes first. Professionals will be compensated with an honorarium of Rs 15,000 for a full-day engagement with faculty members and students. They are expected to conduct two visits monthly, with a maximum of 12 visits per year, including a minimum of three visits to rural institutions annually.

Nominations, along with required information, should be submitted through the DPS Portal at any time during the year. The statement mentioned that the AICTE-DPS offer remains effective for the duration specified in the request or invitation letter. Institutes hosting the program can use the AICTE DPS Portal to request particular professionals from the approved panel. After each visit, the institute must submit a report and feedback from participants in the designated format. Once submitted, AICTE will issue a certificate acknowledging the activity.
