Adani Ports accommodates gigantic vessel equal to four football fields

Mundra Port, an essential part of the Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (APSEZ), successfully berthed the enormous vessel, MV MSC Hamburg, on July 2nd, 2023. This vessel, nearly four football fields long and wide, stands as a remarkable achievement for APSEZ, the leading integrated transport utility in India.
The MV MSC Hamburg, constructed in 2015, docked safely at Mundra Port, one of India’s busiest commercial ports located in Gujarat. This achievement coincides with the ten-year anniversary of the joint venture between the Geneva-based Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) and Adani International Container Terminal Pvt. Ltd.
APSEZ, known for its exceptional operational capabilities, demonstrated its prowess once again by handling the MV MSC Hamburg. The ship boasts a carrying capacity of 15,908 TEU with a current draught of 12 metres. It measures 399 metres in length and 54 metres in width, solidifying Mundra Port’s position in the maritime transport sector.
The successful berthing was made possible by the diligent efforts of the APSEZ Mundra Marine Team. They provided accurate predictions for the clearance necessary to dock the vessel safely, considering the complex conditions of the ship and real-time weather conditions.
In FY23, APSEZ marked the highest port cargo volume with 339 MMT. The company had previously set records in 2021 when it berthed the APL Raffles, a 13,892 TEU vessel, the largest container vessel to have called at any Indian port.
As a reflection of India’s burgeoning maritime industry, APSEZ continues to optimise port services and facilities. Following the temporary halt in operations due to Cyclone Biparjoy, Mundra Port has resumed all services, swiftly returning to its routine of berthing vessels from around the globe.
