The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) filed a complaint with the Election Commission of India on Thursday, alleging that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is conducting a ‘derogatory and misleading’ campaign on social media against their national convener and Delhi Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal.
This development follows a show-cause notice issued by the Election Commission to Kejriwal for alleged disparaging remarks made by the party against the Prime Minister on AAP’s social media handle, with a response deadline set for November 16. In the complaint, AAP brings to the Election Commission’s attention that the BJP has posted several frivolous posts containing morphed images and videos on their official Facebook and Twitter pages.
The intention behind these posts, according to AAP, is to tarnish the clean and undisputed image of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who is also the star campaigner in assembly elections in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh in 2023.
AAP accuses the BJP of resorting to illegal means to exploit the image of the Aam Aadmi Party, creating false propaganda on a large scale. The derogatory portrayal of Aam Aadmi Party members by the BJP has allegedly generated a sense of hatred among the public.
Given the severity of these actions, AAP emphasises the necessity of taking legal action against the BJP. The complaint asserts that the BJP has repeatedly manipulated images of Arvind Kejriwal and other AAP leaders, presenting them in a negative light to sow confusion and hatred among the people.
