The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has increased fees for several Aadhaar update services. The new charges take effect from October 1, 2025 and will remain until September 30, 2028, after which they will be reviewed again.

Individuals who want to correct or update Aadhaar details such as name, address, biometrics, or documents will now have to pay more. This comes as part of UIDAI’s efforts to manage operational costs and improve services at enrolment centres.

Demographic Updates: Slight Increase

“Demographic updates” cover changes to name, address, date of birth, mobile number, and email.

The new fee for demographic updates alone is Rs. 75, up from Rs. 50 earlier.

If you combine demographic updates with biometric updates in a single visit, there is no extra charge for the demographic part.

This makes it cost-effective for users who need both types of updates.

Biometric Updates: Fingerprints, Iris, & Photo

For biometric changes like fingerprints, iris scans, or photographs, the new charge is Rs. 125. UIDAI has also announced that from October 2028, this will rise further to Rs. 150.

This ensures that users who require high-accuracy biometric updates continue to receive quality services at enrolment centres.

Document Updates and Proofs

Individuals who want to update their identity or address documents at enrolment centres will now pay Rs. 75, up from Rs. 50 previously.

However, if updates are done online via the myAadhaar portal, document updates remain free until June 14, 2026. This encourages users to leverage digital channels for cost savings.

Aadhaar Printouts and Home Enrolment

  • Aadhaar printouts via eKYC or other channels cost Rs. 40 initially, increasing to Rs. 50 later.
  • For home enrolment, designed for people who cannot visit centres, the cost is Rs. 700 including GST.
  • If multiple family members use the home service, each additional person pays Rs. 350.

This allows users who cannot travel to still access Aadhaar services conveniently.

Special Cases: Children’s Biometric Updates

UIDAI has waived certain charges for children to ease the financial burden on families:

  • Ages 5–7 and 15–17: The first mandatory biometric update is free.
  • Ages 7–15: Normally Rs. 125, the fee is waived until September 30, 2026.

This exemption benefits parents updating their children’s Aadhaar information.

What This Means for Aadhaar Users?

With the new fees, most Aadhaar update services cost more than before. Users are advised to combine demographic and biometric updates in one visit to avoid extra charges.

Additionally, document updates via the myAadhaar portal remain free until mid-2026, offering a convenient and cost-saving alternative to offline services.

Plan Your Aadhaar Updates Smartly

With the increase in fees, the timing and method of updates can save users money. Using online portals, planning combined updates, and updating children’s Aadhaar at the right age can significantly reduce costs.

UIDAI’s fee hike emphasizes the importance of strategic planning for Aadhaar updates in the coming years, helping users avoid unnecessary charges while keeping their records up-to-date.
