Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that India is working towards building its own space station. He also mentioned that astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla, who led the Axiom-4 mission recently, will be returning to India soon.
He said, “The achievements of the space sector are making the entire nation proud. Our Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla has returned from the space station and will be arriving in India in the coming days.”

He further stated that India is preparing gaganyaan mission based on Atmanirbhar Bharat. “We are working towards establishing our own space station entirely through our efforts. We have seen several space reforms recently. I am very proud to announce that over 300 startups are solely working in the space sector. Thousands of people in these startups are fully committed to this work. This is the power of Indians,” the prime minister said.

Shubhanshu Shukla became the second Indian to travel to space. He completed a 20-day stay at the International Space Station (ISS) as part of the Axiom-4 mission, which was a collaboration between NASA, SpaceX, ISRO, and Axiom Space.
India spent Rs. 584 crore on Shula’s seat on this mission, a major step in the gaganyaan mission scheduled to be launched in 2027. The Rs. 20,000 crore mission will send three astronauts in space.
