President Draupadi Murmu, the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, lauded the Indian Army for its exceptional contributions to national security, its relentless efforts in combating terrorism, and its role in fostering peace and prosperity during the 77th Army Day celebrations on January 15.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi conveyed his best wishes, praising the Army for its “indomitable courage and sacrifice.”

Honoring the Heroes

President Murmu highlighted the Army’s pivotal role in safeguarding the nation’s borders and ensuring peace. “Our soldiers consistently demonstrate extraordinary courage and professionalism in defending our borders. The Indian Army has significantly contributed to counter-terrorism operations, creating a secure environment for the nation’s growth,” she stated.

January 15 is observed as Army Day. This is because it is the day in 1949 when General KM Cariappa took over the Indian Army from General Francis Roy Bucher, the last British Commander-in-Chief. This was a step toward self-reliance for the country after its independence.

Celebrate Excellence and Innovation

As part of Army Day celebrations, the Indian Army showcased its latest technological advancements, reflecting its commitment to operational excellence and self-reliance. In alignment with the Ministry of Defence’s declaration of 2025 as the “Year of Reforms,” the Army has extended its “Year of Technology Absorption” initiative for another year.

Leaders Express Gratitude on Army Day

Prime Minister Narendra Modi saluted the Army’s valuable service, saying, “Heartiest greetings of Army Day to the brave soldiers, ex-servicemen, and their families. The nation is proud of their unmatched courage and dedication.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh extended heartfelt wishes to the soldiers, officers, and their families too. “The Indian Army does not just safeguard our borders but excels at disaster management, peacekeeping, and humanitarian operations too. It reflects pride and confidence for each one of the Indians, he observed.

A Legacy of Valor

The Indian Army is the epitome of national pride. Be it border security or disaster relief, it is the unflinching commitment of the Army that has inspired the nation.
