The India Meteorological Department predicts that the maximum temperature in the national capital today will be approximately 12 degrees, with an expected decrease in fog conditions over the next two days.
Although the IMD indicates that a cold wave is likely to persist in Delhi and the National Capital Region for the next 2-3 days, as per the reports of fog conditions in various regions.
According to IMD data, fog was observed over Uttar Pradesh, Chandigarh, Rajasthan, and Bihar, with dense fog prevailing over Madhya Pradesh and Tripura. Meanwhile, the Jammu division experienced moderate fog conditions.
The Central Pollution Control Board data reveals that the air quality in several parts of Delhi remained in the ‘very poor’ category on Thursday. The Air Quality Index recorded 379 in RK Puram, 312 in Lodhi Road, 377 in the ITO area, and 387 in the IGI Airport area.
IMD forecasts that cold day to severe cold day conditions will persist over parts of Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan in the next two days, gradually decreasing thereafter. Additionally, dense to very dense fog is expected to continue over some parts of the plains of Northwest and East India in the next two days, gradually decreasing afterward.
The IMD emphasizes that dense fog contains particulate matter and pollutants that, when exposed, may lodge in the lungs, reducing their functional capacity and increasing respiratory issues such as wheezing, coughing, and shortness of breath. Additionally, the advisory warns of eye irritation due to exposure to pollutants in the air, which may lead to various eye infections causing redness or swelling.
