A 25-year-old boy hailing from Bihar has been arrested by the Chandigarh Police for allegedly killing a class-12 girlin her residence in Burail here, police informed on Wednesday.

The accused, identified as Mohammad Sharik was married and was allegedly pressurizing the girl to be with him in an extramarital relationship. After becoming aware of his married status, the 18-year-old victim refused to entertain him and stopped talking. After which the man killed her in rage, as informed by the Police.
The accused was trying to escape after the murder fromsector-43 bus stand from where he was arrested, the officials informed.
The student, who was in the 12th grade, shared a rental home with her mother and younger brother in the same neighbourhood as the accused.
The two were in contact, but the precise motive for the girl’s death is yet unknown, according to authorities.
On November 19, after the victim’s brother had left for school and her mother—a domestic helper—had left for work, the event was reported.
The deceased’s brother found the door to the house open when he arrived home in the afternoon and discovered her asleep on the bed.
The young woman was rushed to a hospital by their neighbours after he contacted his mother, where medics pronounced her dead.
Following this, the body was submitted for a post-mortem examination and the police were notified.
“The offender was apprehended based on CCTV footage of the scene since he was visible leaving and entering the girl’s home. At first glance, it looks to be a one-sided affair, but the investigation and post-mortem report will reveal more “Asserting that the accused was also being questioned, DSP Ram Gopal stated.
Police believe that the accused sexually assaulted the girl before killing her by strangulation.
