133 candidates have filed their nominations for the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) bye-elections, scheduled on November 30. There are 12 vacant ward in Delhi MCD seats. Did 133 candidates Nomination Process for Delhi MCD bye-elections End?
The SEC described the nomination process as peaceful and disruption-free. According to the official schedule announced on November 3, candidates had till November 10 to submit their papers.
“The nomination process was completed smoothly in all 12 wards, and a total of 133 nominations were received – 59 from male candidates and 74 from female candidates,” the SEC said in a statement.
The scrutiny of the nominations is slated for November 12, while November 15 has been fixed as the last date for withdrawal.
Top Political Leaders Accompany Party Delhi MCD bye-elections Nominees
The filing of nominations became a show of political strength as Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, MPs, and senior ministers accompanied their party’s candidates.
Chief Minister Gupta led a roadshow in support of BJP candidate Anita Jain from Shalimar Bagh-B ward, the same seat Gupta once represented before becoming an MLA and later the CM following the BJP’s victory in the 2025 Assembly elections.
Highlighting her focus on civic improvement, Gupta said, “We want every ward in Delhi to be neat and clean. We will contest all 12 wards with the blessings and affection of the people and the goal of public service.”
Out of the 12 seats for which by-polls were conducted, nine had been held by the BJP and three by the Aam Aadmi Party.
AAP Bets on Grassroots Workers in Delhi (MCD) bye-elections
Meanwhile, AAP Delhi president Saurabh Bhardwaj said that the party’s Political Affairs Committee decided to prefer grassroots-level workers over the candidates who switched from other parties:
“Delhi’s people are angry with BJP government’s false claims and broken promises and are determined to avenge it by ensuring AAP’s victory in every seat,” said Bhardwaj.
A Mini-Referendum on Local Governance Both BJP and AAP are pulling out all stops in the MCD bye-elections, given that such polls will be perceived as a mini-referendum on Delhi’s civic governance. Results are likely to reflect public sentiment towards each party’s performance and could set the tone for future political battles in the capital.
