In a major breakthrough, Kamatipura Police arrested 11 persons on Monday in connection with a communal incident at Puranapool Chilla, where an unlawful assembly allegedly raised provocative slogans and damaged property, disturbing public tranquillity and communal harmony.

According to police, the incident was triggered on the night of January 15, when an unidentified accused entered the Puranapool Darwaza Mysamma Temple around 11.30 pm and partially damaged a flex banner and a Plaster of Paris (POP) idol placed in the temple veranda. Following this act, a group of individuals allegedly gathered unlawfully and caused damage to the nearby Chilla, escalating communal tensions in the area.

Based on a complaint, Kamatipura Police registered a case under Crime No. 12/2026 and launched an intensive investigation. Officials analysed CCTV footage and technical evidence, which helped identify several accused persons involved in the offence. After sustained efforts, 11 accused were arrested on January 19.

The arrested persons have been identified as Choukat Shanker alias Bolu (19), Choukat Abhishek (24), Kaliwale Kushal Singh alias Kushal (19), Andhumalla Varun alias Boby (21), Andhumalla Arun alias Minnu (20), Choukat Raman alias Nanu (22), Kaliwala Bhumesh (22), Esliwala Ganesh (19), Jaggila Sandeep (31), Damdi Vishal Singh (22), and Smt. Kali Manju (45). All are residents of Pardiwada and surrounding localities in Puranapool and are engaged in various occupations, including private employment, small businesses, and daily wage work. Police said all the accused were produced before the Hon’ble Court and have been remanded to judicial custody. Efforts are ongoing to trace and arrest other absconding persons involved in the incident.

Following the incident, Hyderabad Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar, IPS, instructed senior officials to take immediate steps to prevent further disturbances. As part of confidence-building measures, police intensified patrolling in Kamatipura and Bahadurpura areas, conducted flag marches, and deployed additional pickets in sensitive localities to maintain law and order.

Meanwhile, police appealed to residents of both communities to remain calm, refrain from spreading rumours, and cooperate with authorities in preserving peace and communal harmony in the city.
